Aadhaar Linking Now Mandatory for Vehicle Ownership Transfer and NOC Services
July 21, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Central government has introduced a new Aadhaar-based verification system for vehicle ownership transfers and No Objection Certificate (NOC) services to make the process more transparent, secure and hassle-free. The revised system has been implemented across the country, including Gujarat, from July 15, 2026.
Under the new rules, linking an Aadhaar card with the Transport Department portal has been made mandatory for vehicle ownership transfers and for obtaining an NOC when transferring a vehicle to another state.
According to an official release, applicants must now enter their Aadhaar details on the transport portal. The ownership transfer process will be completed online only if the Aadhaar information matches the records.
If there is any mismatch between the Aadhaar details and the information available on the transport portal, applicants will be required to provide their driving licence details for further verification. In cases where the records in the Registration Certificate (RC) and driving licence also do not match, the applicant will have to visit the concerned Regional Transport Office (RTO) with the necessary Aadhaar documents to complete the process.
The government said the new Aadhaar verification mechanism is aimed at speeding up vehicle ownership transfers while improving the accuracy of records. It is also expected to strengthen security and help prevent fraud, identity misuse and unauthorised transfer of vehicles. DeshGujarat
