IMD Issues Red Alert for Extremely Heavy Rain in Parts of Gujarat Till July 23

Valsad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Navsari and Valsad for the next two days, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy falls.

According to the IMD’s daily weather bulletin, light to moderate rainfall is likely across most parts of Gujarat, while isolated places may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next seven days, till July 27.

On July 21, the IMD has issued a red alert for Navsari and Valsad, while Surat, Tapi and Dang are under an orange alert, indicating the likelihood of very heavy rainfall. Additionally, Panchmahal, Dahod, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, Botad and Diu are under a yellow alert for heavy rain.

On July 22, Valsad and Navsari will continue to remain under a red alert. Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Surat, Dang and Tapi have been placed under an orange alert. Meanwhile, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Kheda, Anand, Vadodara and Bharuch are under a yellow alert.

On July 23, the orange alert covers Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Dang, Tapi, Navsari and Valsad, along with Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli. A yellow alert has been issued for Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch and Surat.

On July 24, the yellow alert expands to cover most parts of North, Central and South Gujarat, including Banaskantha, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari and Valsad, besides Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.

On July 25, Sabarkantha and Aravalli are under an orange alert, while Vav-Tharad, Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Gandhinagar, Kheda, Panchmahal, Mahisagar, Dahod, Ahmedabad, Morbi, Surendranagar, Bhavnagar and Amreli have been placed under a yellow alert.

On July 26, Banaskantha and Sabarkantha remain under an orange alert, while Vav-Tharad, Patan, Mehsana, Aravalli, Amreli and Bhavnagar are under a yellow alert. By July 27, the intensity is expected to ease further, with Banaskantha remaining the only district under an orange alert.

According to the IMD, the prevailing synoptic conditions include the monsoon trough extending from Sri Ganganagar to the northwest Bay of Bengal, a persistent upper air cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan, and another cyclonic circulation over the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Coastal Andhra Pradesh. A trough extending from this system to the northeast Arabian Sea across south Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, south Rajasthan and Gujarat, along with strong southwesterly winds at lower levels, is likely to enhance rainfall activity across Gujarat over the coming days.
