Passenger Opens Emergency Exit on IndiGo Flight at Surat Airport Before Take-off; Detained

Surat: A Surat-based trader was taken off an IndiGo flight to Goa on Tuesday after he allegedly opened an emergency exit door moments before take-off at Surat International Airport.

The incident took place around 3 pm as passengers were seated on IndiGo flight 6E-419, which was scheduled to depart for Goa at 3:20 pm. Airport authorities and CISF personnel rushed to the aircraft after the emergency exit door was opened. The passenger, identified as Hitendra Maniya, was deboarded and handed over to the Dumas police for questioning.

According to Dumas Police Inspector M.V. Patel, Maniya admitted to opening the emergency exit but claimed it was accidental. He told police that he was trying to recline his seat and mistakenly pulled what he believed was the seat handle. Instead, the emergency exit door opened. He immediately informed a cabin crew member, who then alerted the pilot.

Police said they are investigating the incident to determine whether there was any deliberate intent behind the act.

Maniya was travelling to Goa with his friends and was seated in 19A, next to the emergency exit. DeshGujarat
