ACB Gujarat Nabs Fisheries Dept Superintendent in Bribery Case

Rajkot: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat on Wednesday caught a Superintendent of the Fisheries Department red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 50,000.

The accused, Khodabhai Vallabhbhai Ramani, is posted as a Superintendent (Class-2) in the Fisheries Department in Morbi and was also holding the additional charge of Botad.

According to the ACB, the complainant had submitted several tenders to the Fisheries Department this year. Of these, three tenders were approved, while four were rejected. The accused allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs. 1 lakh for issuing the work orders for the approved tenders and returning the demand drafts related to the rejected tenders. Following negotiations, the bribe amount was allegedly settled at Rs. 50,000.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the Bhavnagar ACB Police Station and lodged a complaint. Based on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap.

During the operation, the accused allegedly demanded the agreed bribe amount of Rs. 50,000 from the complainant. As soon as he accepted the cash, the ACB team caught him red-handed near the SBI Bank on Kasturba Road, beyond Hospital Chowk in Rajkot city.
