Traffic Suspended on Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway, NH-48 Due to Flooding in South Gujarat

Ahmedabad: Traffic movement on a stretch of the Vadodara–Mumbai Expressway and National Highway-48 (NH-48) in south Gujarat has been temporarily suspended following heavy rainfall and flooding, authorities said on Thursday.

According to the traffic advisory, vehicular movement between ENA and Kharel on the Vadodara–Mumbai Expressway has been halted after the Ambika River’s water level rose to the bridge bearing level. The suspension has been imposed as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of commuters.

In addition, traffic on NH-48 between Valsad and Mumbai has also been temporarily stopped in both directions due to severe waterlogging and flooding caused by incessant rains.

Authorities have urged motorists to use designated diversion routes, cooperate with traffic personnel on duty, and plan their journeys accordingly. They said further updates will be issued based on the prevailing weather and flood situation.

Meanwhile, an advisory has also been issued for heavy vehicle drivers. Due to continuous heavy rainfall in Valsad and Navsari districts, floodwaters from the Kaveri River are flowing across NH-48.

Heavy vehicles heading towards Navsari, Valsad, and Mumbai have been advised to halt at safe locations or hotels near Bharuch, or before reaching the district, until the situation improves. Drivers have also been requested to cooperate with Bharuch Police personnel deployed along the highway for traffic management and safety arrangements.

Authorities reiterated that the restrictions have been imposed solely as a precaution to safeguard road users amid the ongoing heavy rains in south Gujarat. DeshGujarat
