Ahmedabad – Rajkot Highway Closed Due to Heavy Rains; Traffic Diverted via Dholera Expressway
July 24, 2026
Ahmedabad: Heavy rainfall continued to wreak havoc across Gujarat on Friday, forcing the closure of a key stretch of the Ahmedabad-Rajkot National Highway near Bavla after rainwater inundated the road. The highway has been shut between Bagodara and Sanathal as water levels rose, disrupting traffic on one of the state’s busiest road corridors. In view of the situation, authorities have temporarily closed the highway and announced diversions of traffic via the Dholera Expressway.
Ahmedabad Rural Police has issued a traffic advisory, urging motorists to use alternative routes. Vehicles travelling from Ahmedabad to Rajkot have been diverted via Sanathal–Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway–Vejalka Intersection–Bagodara. Similarly, vehicles coming from Rajkot towards Ahmedabad have been advised to take the Bagodara–Vejalka Intersection–Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway–Sanathal route.
The police have appealed to motorists to avoid unnecessary travel, drive cautiously, and prioritize their safety by following the designated diversion routes. They have also advised commuters to exercise extra caution as several sections of the highway remain waterlogged due to the heavy rains.
Meanwhile, nearly 900 people were stranded in floodwaters near Gallops Park in Bavla. Police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams launched a rescue operation on a war footing and shifted the stranded people to safer locations. DeshGujarat
