Heavy rains inundate Bopal area of Ahmedabad; CM reviews ground situation

Ahmedabad: Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Friday visited the inundated Bopal area of Ahmedabad after heavy rainfall of up to 18 inches triggered severe waterlogging. Health Minister Rushikesh Patel and Ahmedabad Police Commissioner accompanied the Chief Minister as they reviewed the ongoing relief and rescue operations.

The Chief Minister, while wading through floodwaters amid rain, took stock of the situation in the low-lying areas, where several residential localities remain inundated following continuous rainfall. He directed officials to expedite water drainage operations and ensure that all necessary assistance reaches the affected residents without delay.

Among the worst-hit areas is the upscale Sentosa Park Society in Bopal, where floodwaters entered several luxury bungalows, causing extensive damage to homes and household belongings. Residents said the flooding disrupted electricity supply, contaminated drinking water and left many families struggling with essential services.

According to officials, around 20 families remain stranded in the society as floodwaters continue to surround the area. The Chief Minister instructed the administration to provide food, drinking water and other essential supplies to the affected families while accelerating efforts to evacuate them, if required, and restore normalcy.
