Gujarat to Hold By-Elections for 15 Vacant Local Body Seats on July 28

Ahmedabad: The State Election Commission has announced that election campaigning will be prohibited from 6 pm on July 26 for the July 28, 2026 by-elections to 15 vacant seats in local self-government bodies across Gujarat, as part of the Model Code of Conduct.

According to the Commission, the by-elections will be held for one seat in the Junagadh Municipal Corporation, seven seats across the Devgadh Baria and Visnagar municipalities, one seat in the Anand District Panchayat, and six seats in the Halvad, Poshina, Satlasana, Harij, Netrang, and Phagvel taluka panchayats. The election schedule was announced by the State Election Commission on July 3, 2026.

In accordance with the election rules, all forms of election campaigning will be prohibited in the concerned constituencies 48 hours before the conclusion of polling. Accordingly, the ban will come into effect from 6 pm on July 26 and will apply across all media platforms.

The State Election Commission said the restriction has been imposed to ensure that the by-elections are conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner. Polling will be held on July 28, 2026, followed by the counting of votes on July 30. DeshGujarat
