Indian Army Rescues 355 Stranded People in Gujarat Flood Relief Operations

Ahmedabad: The Indian Army has rescued 355 stranded civilians from flood-hit areas of Gujarat and the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli as part of its ongoing Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations. Launched on the evening of July 23 under the Southern Command, the operations are being carried out in close coordination with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), civil administration and other agencies.

To support the rescue effort, the Army has deployed seven Relief and Rescue Columns, including Engineer and Medical teams, across the affected regions. Two columns are operating in Navsari, one in the Valsad–Vapi region, three in Ahmedabad covering the city, rural areas and the Ahmedabad–Rajkot Highway, while one column has been deployed in Silvassa in the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli. Additional rescue columns remain on standby in Vadodara, Ahmedabad and Jamnagar to respond to any fresh emergencies.

Since the operations began, Army teams have been carrying out continuous rescue and relief missions in flooded and inaccessible areas. Many of the evacuations were conducted under difficult conditions, including rescuing people trapped for long hours in inundated buildings and isolated settlements. Medical teams have provided immediate treatment to those in need, while relief personnel have distributed food, drinking water and other essential supplies to affected residents awaiting evacuation or the restoration of normal connectivity.

The ongoing operations are being conducted in coordination with the civil administration, NDRF, SDRF, police and other agencies to ensure timely rescue, relief and humanitarian assistance across the flood-affected districts. DeshGujarat
