Amreli Police Recover ₹11 Lakh for Sydney-Based NRI After Email Complaint
July 26, 2026
Amreli: The Amreli Police recovered ₹11 lakh for a Sydney-based Non-Resident Indian (NRI) within days of receiving an email complaint alleging he had been defrauded in a gold purchase transaction.
According to Amreli Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kharat, the complainant, Saurabh Jolly, originally from New Delhi and now residing in Sydney, Australia, transferred ₹11 lakh in April 2026 to an individual in Amreli to purchase gold. Despite making the payment, he neither received the gold nor a refund.
While in Australia, Jolly emailed the Amreli SP in June 2026 seeking police assistance. The complaint was immediately taken up by the district’s cyber crime team, which coordinated with the concerned bank, investigated the transaction and remained in regular contact with the complainant throughout the process.
Police Inspector Kamlesh Khatana of the Amreli Cyber Crime Police said the team contacted the recipient of the money, a resident of Amreli, and persuaded him to return the amount. The entire ₹11 lakh was subsequently refunded to the complainant.
Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi has directed the police to provide immediate assistance to victims of cyber fraud and make every effort to recover and safeguard their hard-earned money.
In an email to the Amreli Police, Jolly expressed gratitude for the prompt action, saying that despite being thousands of kilometres away in Australia, he never felt disconnected from the investigation. He praised the police for their regular communication, patience and systematic handling of the case.
Jolly also said the experience strengthened his faith in the professionalism and effectiveness of the Gujarat Police, adding that the Amreli Cyber Crime Team’s swift action demonstrated how committed policing can help restore public trust in cases of cyber fraud. DeshGujarat
