July 27, 2026
Ahmedabad: Gujarat Technological University (GTU) has taken strict action against students found using unfair means during the Summer-2026 examinations. Of the 201 cases heard by the University’s Unfair Means Committee (UFM), penalties have been imposed on 198 students, of whom 126 have been barred from appearing in examinations for one year.
According to the university, the punishment was decided based on the nature and severity of the malpractice. Two students have been granted another opportunity to present their case before a higher committee as they face severe penalties.
Among those penalised, seven students received Level-1 punishment and were declared failed in the concerned component of the subject. Under Level-2, the Summer-2026 examination results of 60 students were cancelled.
The highest number of cases fell under Level-3 punishment, with 126 students having their Summer-2026 results cancelled and being debarred from appearing in any university examination for one semester, up to the Winter-2026 or Summer-2027 examinations.
Under Level-4 punishment, two students had their results cancelled and were barred from appearing in examinations for two semesters, until Winter-2027. One student received the most severe Level-5 punishment, under which the Summer-2026 result was cancelled and the student was debarred from all university examinations for the next three semesters, until Summer-2028.
Meanwhile, two students were acquitted due to insufficient evidence, and no penalty was imposed on them. The cases of three other students have been kept pending and will be reviewed by a higher committee. DeshGujarat
