₹27,000 Crore Mega Shipbuilding Park to Boost Porbandar Economy, Create Jobs: Modhwadia

Gandhinagar: Gujarat Science and Technology Minister and Porbandar MLA Arjun Modhwadia on Monday welcomed the launch of the Gujarat Ship Building and Repair Policy 2026 and the in-principle approval for a Mega Greenfield Shipbuilding Park and Shipbuilding Repair Facility at Kuchdi in Porbandar, describing the move as a historic milestone for the economic development of both Gujarat and the coastal district.

Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Union Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, and Porbandar MP and Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Modhwadia said the policy aligns with the Centre’s Maritime Vision India 2047 and is expected to significantly strengthen Gujarat’s position in India’s maritime sector.

He said the state policy has been designed in coordination with the Centre’s maritime initiatives and will further boost Gujarat, which accounts for around 42% of the country’s maritime logistics share.

Sharing details of the project, Modhwadia said the Mega Greenfield Shipbuilding Park is expected to attract a total investment of ₹27,000 crore, including ₹3,300 crore from the government and around ₹23,700 crore from private investors.

According to the minister, the project is expected to generate employment opportunities for thousands of local youth and skilled technicians in Porbandar and nearby areas. It is also expected to promote the growth of shipbuilding-related micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and marine equipment manufacturing clusters, contributing significantly to Gujarat’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP).

Modhwadia added that the Central and State governments have announced several incentives to attract investment in the sector. These include capital assistance, interest subsidies, full exemption from stamp duty, dredging assistance, subsidies on electricity and water charges, and special incentives for procurement from MSMEs.

He said the policy would help position Gujarat as a leading global hub for shipbuilding and ship repair while accelerating industrial and economic growth in the state. DeshGujarat
