NHAI Plans Six-Laning of 131.5 km NH-53 in Gujarat; DPR Process Underway

Surat: A key highway that sees massive movement of vehicles in South Gujarat is set to become six-lane. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has invited tenders from consultancy firms to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for six-laning an estimated 131.5 km stretch of National Highway-53 (old NH-6) from the Gujarat-Maharashtra border to Surat and Hazira Port.

The consultant selected by NHAI will prepare a detailed DPR by conducting various technical studies, including road survey, traffic study, geotechnical investigation, engineering design, land acquisition planning, and drainage design. The tenure of this consultancy will be 12 months.

The selected consultant will be required to use advanced technologies such as LiDAR for topographic surveys and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) for utility mapping.

The main objective of this project is to strengthen connectivity between Surat and Hazira Port, reduce traffic pressure on important freight corridors of South Gujarat, and provide greater convenience to the industry and logistics sector.
