Vadodara Police Invoke GujCTOC Against 9 Members of Sindhi Gang; Four Held

Vadodara: The city police have invoked the Gujarat Control of Terrorism and Organised Crime (GujCTOC) Act against the notorious ‘Sindhi Gang’ of Warasiya. A total of nine accused, including the alleged kingpin of the gang, Himanshu alias Harry Sindhi, have been booked under the GujCTOC Act. Four of the accused have been arrested, while separate police teams are working to nab the absconding accused.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Zone-4, Andrew McEwan, told a press conference that several cases of illegal liquor smuggling, extortion, robbery, assault, attempted murder and other serious crimes have been registered against the gang. Police investigation has revealed that the gang was illegally smuggling Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from other states and selling it in Vadodara and surrounding areas through an organised network.

According to the police, the gang used the proceeds from the illegal liquor business to strengthen its financial position and fund other criminal activities. Several serious offences, including robbery, extortion, assault, attempted murder and fraud, have been registered against the gang.

In this case, the police have arrested four accused, Narendra, Rohit, Deepak and Bharat. Separate police teams have been formed to trace and arrest the main accused, Harry Sindhi, along with the other absconding accused.

The police further said that action had been taken against the gang members on several earlier occasions for various crimes. However, after being released on bail, they allegedly resumed their criminal activities. Considering the gang’s organised criminal network and its operations across various parts of the state, police have invoked the GujCTOC Act against them.

According to the police investigation, a gang war-like situation also emerged in the city following a rivalry between Harry Sindhi and Alpu Sindhi over the illegal liquor trade and extortion.
