ACB Gujarat Nabs Two in Decoy Trap for Seeking Bribe for Aadhaar Update and Correction

Bhavnagar: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat today nabbed an Aadhaar operator of the Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and an alleged middleman while accepting a bribe of ₹3,000 for updating an Aadhaar card.

According to the ACB, the accused have been identified as Vijay Bharatbhai Dabhi (28), an Aadhaar operator posted at the BMC West Zone office, and Ashwin Bambhaniya, who allegedly operated from an office opposite Mantresh Complex in Bhavnagar and acted as a facilitator for Aadhaar- and PAN-related services.

The ACB said it had received information that Bambhaniya was allegedly demanding ₹2,000 to ₹3,000 from people for Aadhaar card corrections and updates in connivance with officials and computer operators at the municipal corporation. Acting on the information, the agency arranged a decoy operation on July 28.

During the trap, the decoy complainant first contacted Bambhaniya and shared the required documents for Aadhaar correction through WhatsApp. Bambhaniya then directed the complainant to meet Dabhi at the Aadhaar Card Centre located at the BMC West Zone office near Akhlol Jakat Naka.

After the Aadhaar update was completed, the accused allegedly accepted a bribe of ₹3,000 from the complainant. ACB officials immediately conducted the trap and recovered the entire bribe amount from the accused.
