NDRF Carries Out 26 Flood Rescue Operations Across Gujarat; Rescues 245, Evacuates 852

Ahmedabad: The 06 Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) carried out 26 flood rescue and evacuation operations across Gujarat and the Union Territories of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman between July 22 and 29, rescuing 245 people and evacuating 852 others after heavy monsoon rains triggered widespread flooding in the region.

According to the NDRF, in response to the evolving flood situation, the 06 Battalion immediately mobilised its teams and launched intensive flood water rescue (FWR), evacuation, search, recovery and humanitarian assistance operations from July 22 onwards. Working in close coordination with the respective district administrations, Gujarat government authorities, police, fire and emergency services, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and other stakeholder agencies, the battalion responded swiftly to distress calls and ensured timely assistance to affected people.

The NDRF said that from July 22 onwards, its teams conducted 26 flood rescue and evacuation operations across Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Ahmedabad, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman. During these operations, 245 people were rescued, 852 were evacuated, six bodies were recovered, nine livestock were saved and 290 food packets were distributed.

The force also highlighted a major rescue operation carried out at Kopri village in Valsad district on July 23. Following incessant rainfall, a passenger bus became stranded in fast-flowing floodwaters. After receiving the information, the 06 Battalion rushed to the spot, carried out a dynamic risk assessment and launched a rescue operation using boats and other lifesaving equipment.

Despite extremely challenging conditions, the NDRF team safely rescued all the stranded passengers through a well-coordinated operation. A total of 52 civilians including one infant, seven children, 21 women and 23 men were brought to safety without any loss of life.

The NDRF said its personnel remain on high alert and are fully prepared to respond to any emergencies during the ongoing monsoon season in coordination with the civil administration. DeshGujarat
