Revamp of 23 Railway Stations in Gujarat Completed Under Amrit Bharat Scheme: Centre in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi: Railway redevelopment work under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is progressing steadily in Gujarat, with development works completed at 23 railway stations so far out of the 88 stations identified under the scheme in the state, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Rajya Sabha.

Replying to a question in the Upper House, the minister said that 88 railway stations in Gujarat have been selected for redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which aims to modernise stations with improved passenger amenities, better accessibility, and enhanced infrastructure through a phased, long-term approach.

Bhaktinagar, Dakor, Derol, Godhra Junction, Hapa, Jam Jodhpur, Jam Wanthali, Kanalus Junction, Karamsad, Khambhaliya, Kosamba Junction, Limbdi, Mahuva, Mithapur, Morbi, Okha, Palitana, Porbandar, Pratapnagar, Rajula Junction, Samakhiyali, Sihor Junction, and Utran are the stations that have been revamped under the scheme so far.

The minister stated that the activities for development at other stations have also been taken up at a good pace, and the progress of some of the stations is as follows:

New Bhuj station: The structural work of the new station building at the main and second entry and the air concourse has been completed, and finishing works have been taken up. The works of the new foot over bridge, the through roof, improvement of the circulating area at the main entry and second entry, new platform shelters, lifts, and escalators have been taken up.

Kalol Junction station: The works of the new station building at the main and second entry, platform shelter, improvement of the platform surface, improvement of the circulating area, and parking have been completed. The works of the new 12 m wide foot over bridge, improvement of the water booth, and the entry/exit gate have been taken up.

Mahesana Junction station: The works of improvement of the station building at the main entry, the new station building at the second entry, improvement of the circulating area, parking, platform shelter, improvement of the platform surface, boundary wall, and entry/exit gate have been completed. The works of the 12 m wide foot over bridge, improvement of the water booth, and the toilet block have been taken up.

Ankleshwar station: The works of improvement of the station building at the main entry and second entry, improvement of the circulating area, approach road, new platform shelters, and parking have been completed. The work of the 12 m wide foot over bridge has been taken up.

Surendranagar station: The works of improvement of the station building, improvement of the circulating area, parking, improvement of the platform surface, and new platform shelters have been completed. The works of the 12 m wide foot over bridge and lifts have been taken up.

The minister said the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme focuses on preparing station-specific master plans to improve station access, waiting halls, toilets, foot over bridges, lifts, escalators, platform shelters, parking, passenger information systems, facilities for Divyangjan passengers, executive lounges, multimodal integration, and other modern amenities, along with sustainable and environment-friendly infrastructure.

Nationally, 1,340 railway stations have been identified for redevelopment under the scheme, including 88 in Gujarat.

On funding, Vaishnaw informed the House that station redevelopment and modernisation works are generally financed under Plan Head-53 (Customer Amenities), with expenditure maintained zone-wise rather than state-wise. Gujarat falls under the Western Railway and North Western Railway zones. For these two zones, ₹2,247 crore has been allocated for the financial year 2026–27, of which ₹831 crore had been spent up to June 2026. DeshGujarat
