Schools, colleges in Gandhinagar to remain closed on July 31 amid heavy rain forecast

Gandhinagar: The Gandhinagar district administration has declared a holiday on Friday, July 31, for all primary, secondary and higher secondary schools, colleges, ITIs and Anganwadis after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds.

The order applies to all government, grant-in-aid and self-financed educational institutions across the district. The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff amid the adverse weather forecast.

According to the IMD, Gandhinagar is likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and gusty winds. The administration said educational activities have been suspended to avoid any risk arising from waterlogging or other rain-related emergencies.

The district administration has also advised citizens to avoid venturing outdoors unless necessary, stay away from electric poles, transformers and exposed wires, and not take shelter under large trees during thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the District Disaster Management Department has kept rescue teams and officials on alert, with sub-divisional and taluka-level control rooms functioning round the clock. Residents have been urged to rely only on official advisories and avoid spreading or believing rumours. DeshGujarat
