Ahmedabad on Red Alert as IMD Forecasts Extremely Heavy Rain for Next 48 Hours

Ahmedabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for extremely heavy rainfall in Ahmedabad city for the next 48 hours.

According to the IMD bulletin, heavy to very heavy rain at a few places, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall, is very likely in Ahmedabad till 8:30 am on August 2.

Keeping this in view, the Ahmedabad district administration has declared a holiday for schools and colleges on Friday, while anganwadis will remain closed till August 3.

The city received an average of 19 mm of rainfall between 6 am and 3 pm on Friday. According to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), Asarwa in the Central Zone recorded the highest rainfall at 34.50 mm, followed by Kalupur and Chandlodiya with 33 mm each, and Ranip with 31 mm.

Rain was reported across the city, with areas such as Chandkheda, Motera, Bodakdev, Science City, Gota, Thaltej, Memnagar, Dudheshwar, Naroda and Kotarpur receiving over 1 inch of rainfall by 3 pm.

The civic body has also cancelled the Jaya Parvati Vrat night events that were scheduled to be held at Kankaria Lake and Sabarmati Riverfront. Public entry has also been prohibited at all lake gardens till August 1.
