AMC Defers Jaya Parvati Vrat Events at Sabarmati Riverfront, Kankaria Lake Amid Heavy Rain Alert
July 31, 2026
Ahmedabad: With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy rainfall in Ahmedabad and other parts of Gujarat over the coming days, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to postpone the special night programme organised for women and girls observing Jaya Parvati Vrat at the Sabarmati Riverfront and Kankaria Lake.
The decision was taken following the suggestion of Mayor Hitesh Barot, Standing Committee Chairman Kamlesh Patel and Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani.
Considering the prevailing rainy conditions and the forecast of more heavy rainfall, the civic body has postponed the entire programme until further notice. As a result, the special security arrangements planned at the Sabarmati Riverfront and Kankaria Lake for women and girls observing the festival will not be available as originally scheduled.
The AMC has appealed to women and girls observing Jaya Parvati Vrat and their families to cooperate with the decision, stating that it has been taken in the interest of public safety. The civic body has also urged citizens to remain alert, exercise caution in view of the weather conditions, and follow advisories issued by the administration. DeshGujarat
