July 31, 2026
Ahmedabad: A woman arriving from Dubai was caught at Ahmedabad International Airport with more than 240 grams of 24-karat gold jewellery worth around Rs 35.5 lakh, which she had allegedly concealed by wearing it as personal ornaments.
According to the Customs Air Intelligence Unit (AIU), the passenger was intercepted on Thursday based on passenger profiling. During the inspection, officials found her wearing four gold bangles, a chain and a pendant, for which she could not produce any valid documents.
The jewellery was seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.
Officials said this is the second case in the past month in which a woman has been caught wearing gold ornaments exceeding the permissible limit. The passenger is being questioned to determine whether she was unaware of the applicable gold import rules or had intentionally worn the jewellery to evade customs duty.
