Ahmedabad City Wakes Up to 3 Inches of Rain; Here’s Area-Wise Rainfall Data

Ahmedabad: The city of Ahmedabad woke up to an average of 3.01 inches of rainfall recorded over the last 24 hours (from 6 am on July 31 to 6 am on August 1). Different parts of the city received between 1.79 inches and 4.09 inches of rain.

Thaltej recorded the highest rainfall at 4.09 inches, followed by 3.90 inches in Bopal, 3.82 inches each in Bodakdev and Asarwa, 3.76 inches in Science City, 3.72 inches in Chandlodia, 3.64 inches in Motera, 3.54 inches in Kalupur, 3.39 inches in Ranip, 3.29 inches in Viratnagar, 3.13 inches in Lambha, 3.01 inches in Indrapuri and 2.99 inches in Naroda.

Among the city’s zones, the North-West Zone recorded the highest average rainfall at 3.49 inches, followed by the Central Zone (3.46 inches), West Zone (3.11 inches), South-West Zone (2.91 inches), South Zone (2.87 inches), North Zone (2.78 inches) and East Zone (2.49 inches).

According to Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) data, the city has received a total of 23.22 inches of rainfall so far this monsoon season, accounting for 64.50% of its average seasonal rainfall.

The heavy rain led to widespread traffic snarls and waterlogging across the city, with commuters in western Ahmedabad facing the worst disruption. Many residents blamed poor drainage and ongoing infrastructure works for worsening the situation.

Waterlogged roads and long traffic queues brought movement to a crawl across western Ahmedabad during the afternoon, when traffic is usually lighter than during peak hours.

Water levels receded from most affected areas within two to three hours. As a precaution during the afternoon downpour, the Mithakhali and Shahibaug underpasses were temporarily closed. The Mithakhali underpass reopened within 30 minutes, while traffic resumed at the Shahibaug underpass within an hour.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) also deployed dewatering pumps at major waterlogging hotspots, helping drain accumulated rainwater and restore normal traffic movement. DeshGujarat
