Gujarat Completes 64.7% of Average Monsoon Rainfall as of August 1

Gandhinagar: As of 6 am on August 1, Gujarat has received 588.56 mm of cumulative rainfall this monsoon season, accounting for 64.76% of its average seasonal rainfall.

According to data released by the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), South Gujarat continues to be the wettest region, receiving 1,408.59 mm of rainfall so far, 91.35% of its average seasonal rainfall. It is followed by the East-Central Gujarat region with 509.07 mm, completing 62.16% of its seasonal average. Saurashtra has recorded 372.00 mm (48.81%), while North Gujarat has received 341.56 mm (46.76%). Kutch remains the driest region with 103.30 mm, or just 20.67% of its average seasonal rainfall.

Among the districts, Navsari and Valsad have already crossed their average seasonal rainfall, recording 110.49% and 102.25%, respectively. Other districts nearing the 100% mark include Surat (98.28%), while Kheda (84.43%), Ahmedabad (83.54%), and Anand (82.87%) have also recorded substantial rainfall this monsoon. At the other end of the spectrum, Devbhumi Dwarka has received just 4.60% of its seasonal average, followed by Porbandar (16.12%) and Kutch (20.67%), making them the driest parts of the state so far.

In terms of cumulative rainfall, Valsad tops the state with 2,434.29 mm, followed by Navsari (2,099.83 mm), Dang (1,995.67 mm), Surat (1,488.17 mm), and another South Gujarat district, Tapi (1,101.63 mm).

During the last 24 hours, rainfall was reported in all 34 districts and 255 of Gujarat’s 268 talukas. Ambika taluka in Surat district recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 611 mm, while the statewide average rainfall during the 24-hour period stood at 79.84 mm.

The SEOC data shows that Gujarat received 35.21 mm of rainfall in June, while July contributed 553.35 mm, indicating that the bulk of this season’s rainfall has been recorded during the month of July.

Notably, on August 1 last year, the state had completed 62.93% of its average seasonal rainfall after recording 554.93 mm of cumulative rainfall. DeshGujarat
