IMD Issues Nowcast Warning for Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms in Parts of Gujarat

Gandhinagar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday afternoon issued a nowcast warning forecasting heavy rain, thunderstorms, hail, and strong winds in several parts of Gujarat over the next three hours.
According to the nowcast issued at 4 pm on August 1, 2026, heavy rain (more than 15 mm per hour) accompanied by moderate thunderstorms and gusty winds with speeds of 41-61 kmph is very likely at isolated places in Kutch, Devbhumi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Morbi, Surendranagar, Patan, Mehsana, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Kheda, Panchmahal, and Dahod districts. The IMD has also forecast a high probability (over 60%) of cloud-to-ground lightning in these areas.
The bulletin further stated that moderate rain (5-15 mm per hour) accompanied by light thunderstorms and gusty winds of up to 41 kmph is very likely at isolated places in Porbandar, Rajkot, Junagadh, Amreli, Botad, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, Anand, Bharuch, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Surat, Tapi, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Diu, Daman, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. These districts are likely to witness a moderate probability (30-60%) of cloud-to-ground lightning.
