Vande Bharat Express halts at Ankleshwar for the first time for Life-Saving mission

Ankleshwar: In another remarkable example of rapid organ transportation, the Vande Bharat Express was halted at Ankleshwar Railway Station for the first time to transport a donor heart for a life-saving transplant at Ahmedabad’s U.N. Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre.

The donor heart was retrieved from Smt. Jayaben Modi Multi-Speciality Hospital in Ankleshwar by a medical team from U.N. Mehta Hospital. A green corridor was created to transport the organ from the hospital to Ankleshwar Railway Station within minutes, ensuring minimal transit time.

The heart is being transported aboard the Vande Bharat Express to Ahmedabad, where it will be transplanted into a patient at U.N. Mehta Hospital. In organ transplantation, every minute is critical, and completing the transplant within a limited time window is essential for the recipient’s survival.

This marks the second time in just three days that the Vande Bharat Express has been used to transport a donor heart to U.N. Mehta Hospital, highlighting the train’s role in enabling swift, time-bound movement of organs across Gujarat.

The upcoming procedure will be the 78th successful heart transplant performed at U.N. Mehta Hospital, reinforcing the importance of coordinated efforts between healthcare authorities, emergency services and the Indian Railways in saving lives through organ donation. DeshGujarat
