Surat Civic Body Inspects 14 Units, Destroys 235 kg of Analogue Cheese After Statewide Ban

Surat: Acting on the Gujarat government’s recent order banning analogue paneer, analogue cheese and analogue butter, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) launched a special enforcement drive and destroyed around 235 kg of analogue cheese during inspections across the city.

The ban, which came into effect on August 5, 2026, was imposed in the interest of public health. Following the directive, the Food Department of the Surat Municipal Corporation constituted three teams of Food Safety Officers to enforce the ban.

On Thursday, the teams inspected 14 establishments involved in the manufacture, storage and sale of analogue dairy products in the West Zone, Rander Zone and Udhna Zone-A. During the drive, officials seized and destroyed approximately 235 kg of analogue cheese found at various premises.

The inspected establishments included dairy product manufacturers, traders and suppliers located in Athwa, Citylight, Khatodara, Udhna, Bamroli, Adajan and Rander.

The civic body said the enforcement drive is part of its ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with the state government’s ban on analogue dairy products.
