Gujarat University Suspends 10 Employees Appointed During Ex-VC Neerja Gupta’s Tenure

Ahmedabad: Gujarat University has suspended ten temporary employees, including several senior officials, following the recommendation of an inquiry committee probing alleged irregularities in their appointments.

The action comes amid protests by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), which has opposed the appointments, claiming they were made during the tenure of former Vice Chancellor Neerja Gupta. The student body has alleged that the employees were given unusually high salaries, resulting in financial losses to the university.

In-charge Vice Chancellor Jagdish Joshi said the university received complaints alleging that due procedures were not followed during the recruitment process.”A three-member committee was constituted to examine the matter. It unanimously recommended the suspension of the ten employees to ensure a fair and impartial inquiry,” Joshi said.

Those suspended include Gujarat University Startup and Entrepreneurship Council Group CEO Srinivasa Rao Sureddi, Institute of Defence Studies and Research Foundation (IDSRF) CEO Man Singh Rajora, and Atal Incubation Centre Senior Vice President Biswajit Adhikari.

Joshi said the university will decide on further action after reviewing the committee’s final report, in consultation with the state government and after seeking legal opinion.

The committee has also been asked to examine whether the salaries paid to the suspended employees were in line with applicable rules.
