August 10, 2026
Gandhinagar: A fire broke out in the basement of Block No. 9 of Sardar Bhavan at the New Secretariat in Gandhinagar on Monday morning. The standby fire brigade teams were immediately deployed to the spot and brought the blaze under control.
Officials said the situation is now completely normal and under control. Block No. 9 houses offices of the Narmada, Water Resources, Water Supply and Kalpsar Department, the Women and Child Development Department, and the State Election Commission.
Some physical government records kept in the basement were partially damaged in the fire. However, officials said there was no loss of important, sensitive or confidential records of the Water Resources Department.
The department said the Gujarat government’s e-Sarkar system, implemented as part of its Good Governance initiative, has ensured that government files and records are scanned and stored securely in digital form.
As a result, the fire is not expected to affect administrative work or the functioning of the departments housed in the building, an official press release said. DeshGujarat
