SMC Inspects 47 Surat Metro construction Sites, Finds 208 Mosquito-Breeding Spots

Surat: The Surat Municipal Corporation’s (SMC) Vector-Borne Disease Control Department inspected 3,063 spots across 47 metro construction sites on August 8 as part of its drive to control mosquito-borne diseases.

During the inspection, officials found 208 mosquito-breeding sites and carried out 173 source-reduction activities to eliminate the breeding spots. The civic team also collected blood samples from 779 labourers and issued 17 notices for violations.

The SMC collected a total of ₹61,500 in administrative expenses from various construction sites across different zones of the city.

The highest amount of ₹15,000 was collected from the Bhesan Garden Metro Station site in the West Zone. Other sites where administrative expenses were collected included locations at Delhi Gate, Ring Road, Kamela Darwaja, Nirmal Hospital, Anwarnagar, Bhatar, Khajod and Sarthana, among other metro construction sites.

The civic body has urged residents and construction site operators to take steps to prevent mosquito breeding and follow instructions issued by SMC officials.

The VBDC Department warned that strict action would be taken against those failing to comply with mosquito-control measures, stressing that public cooperation is essential to prevent the spread of vector-borne diseases. DeshGujarat
