Anand Niketan School’s Canteen Shut After Glass Piece Found in Breakfast; DEO Orders FIR
August 12, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad District Education Officer (DEO) has ordered strict action against the management of Anand Niketan School’s Shilaj Branch after a piece of glass was reportedly found in a student’s breakfast.
Taking the incident seriously, the DEO has directed the school to immediately suspend the person responsible for the canteen and file a police complaint against him.
The DEO has also ordered the immediate closure of the school canteen. The school management has been instructed to submit a valid FSSAI licence, if available. The canteen can be reopened only after an inspection and approval from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The order also prohibits the operation of the canteen until the required approvals are obtained.
Following the incident, the Ahmedabad DEO has directed that all school canteens in the city be inspected. Schools will be required to have the necessary food safety certification to operate canteens, while the Education Department will conduct surprise inspections from time to time to ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards.
The glass-piece incident at Anand Niketan School had triggered concerns among parents. Allegations have also been raised that the school management initially attempted to downplay the matter instead of taking immediate action against those responsible.
