AMC Fines Palladium Mall ₹75,000 After Mosquito Larvae Found on Rooftop

Ahmedabad: The AMC health department has fined the operators of Palladium Mall in Thaltej ₹75,000 after mosquito larvae were found breeding in stagnant water near air-conditioning units on the rooftop.

Municipal Health Officer Dr Bhavin Solanki said stagnant rainwater is a common breeding ground during the monsoon, but commercial complexes, multiplexes, factories, schools, colleges and construction sites can also become breeding spots, especially around poorly maintained AC systems and other installations.

“With mosquito activity increasing during the monsoon, officials across all seven zones and the malaria department have been asked to intensify inspections and take strict action wherever breeding is found,” Solanki said.

Health department sources said 148 mosquito breeding sites were detected across four eastern zones in the past two days, compared with 73 in three western zones. Officials said the higher number of breeding sites in eastern Ahmedabad is coinciding with a rise in malaria and dengue cases, with health centres and private clinics also reporting more patients with fever.
