Morbi: A 20-year-old, 50,000-litre water tank collapsed in the wrong direction while being demolished in Hirapar village of Tankara taluka, Morbi district, damaging a house and shop and burying freezers, grocery items and furniture. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
The incident occurred while the old tank was being dismantled after a new water supply system was constructed in the village. The tank was expected to fall at a designated spot, but instead collapsed towards the adjoining property belonging to Rajnibhai.
The impact damaged the walls of the house, as well as a solar water heater, awning and roof. Equipment and goods kept in the shop, including freezers and grocery items, were also buried under the debris.
K.P. Baldaniya, Deputy Engineer of the Water Supply Department, said the incident occurred while the Taluka Panchayat was coordinating with the Gram Panchayat for the demolition of the old tank.
Tankara Taluka Panchayat TDO Gautam Bhimani said the Hirapar Gram Panchayat had awarded the demolition contract to Morbi-based contractor Divyarajsinh Jadeja.
Following the incident, the village Talati-cum-Mantri conducted a panchnama (spot inspection and record) and initiated further proceedings. DeshGujarat
