Ahmedabad Metro Crosses 2 Lakh Daily Ridership Mark on Routine Days
August 14, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Metro has crossed the milestone of 2 lakh passenger journeys in a single day, with ridership reaching the mark in August 2026 even in the absence of major events such as IPL or World Cup cricket matches and large music concerts at Narendra Modi Stadium.
The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) said daily passenger journeys have risen to around 2 lakh during the current month, reflecting growing public acceptance of the metro as a preferred mode of daily transport.
According to the ridership data shared by GMRC, Ahmedabad Metro recorded 2,00,436 passenger journeys on August 7, crossing the two-lakh mark for the first time in the period covered by the data. Ridership rose further to 2,03,215 journeys on August 10.
The metro had also recorded strong ridership in the days leading up to the milestone. Passenger journeys stood at 1,99,789 on August 3, 1,98,131 on August 4, 1,96,561 on August 5 and 1,99,339 on August 6.
The figures indicate a steady rise in regular metro usage, rather than a temporary spike driven by a major event. GMRC specifically noted that the achievement came without mega events such as IPL or World Cup matches or Coldplay-style music concerts at Narendra Modi Stadium.
In July, Ahmedabad Metro had also recorded passenger journeys close to the two-lakh mark, including 1,95,522 on July 23, 1,95,210 on July 28, 1,98,162 on July 29 and 1,94,904 on July 30.
GMRC expressed gratitude to passengers for choosing the metro for their daily commute, saying the growing trust and continued cooperation of commuters are contributing significantly to strengthening Ahmedabad Metro services. DeshGujarat
