Anand Niketan School Fined ₹10,000; 2 Supervisors Suspended Over Food Incident

Ahmedabad: Anand Niketan Shilaj has relieved education consultant Munazza Shums and suspended two supervisors who were on duty when a piece of glass was allegedly found in a student’s meal. The District Education Office (DEO) has also imposed a ₹10,000 fine on the school for negligence under the RTE Rules, 2012.

The action follows two incidents at the school’s Shilaj campus that triggered concern among parents and local groups. Besides the food-related incident, the school faced objections over a book on Malala Yousafzai and complaints that daily morning prayers had been discontinued for more than a month.

Following show-cause notices, the DEO officials conducted an inspection and sought corrective measures. In its Action Taken Report submitted to District Education Officer Rohit M. Chaudhari on Thursday, the school said Shums, who worked as a curriculum designer and education consultant, had been relieved, while the two supervisors on duty during the meal incident had been removed.

The school has also initiated the process of appointing a regular principal and a new catering agency, while new supervisors will oversee food safety in the interim. The school has withdrawn the book in question and issued a weekly prayer schedule for daily morning assemblies, Chaudhari said.

As part of safety measures, the school has approached the local police and is expected to resume offline classes from Friday.

Meanwhile, the school’s Trust Board has decided to discontinue the food service with immediate effect. The school said it would retain only the amount corresponding to food services provided until the date of discontinuation and refund the unused balance to parents.
