Gujarat ACB Nabs State Tax Officer, Inspector in Bribery Case in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday caught two State Tax Department officials while allegedly accepting a ₹25,000 bribe to unfreeze a bank account belonging to a businessman in Ahmedabad.

The accused have been identified as Kamlesh Kumar Babuji Thakor, State Tax Officer (Class-2), and Mohmand Aziz Kadarkhan Mansuri, State Tax Inspector (Class-3). Both are posted at the office of the Assistant State Tax Commissioner, Ghatak-6, located at Lal Darwaza, Ahmedabad.

According to the ACB, the complainant runs a business under the name Unique Compressor Technology, engaged in the sale and servicing of air compressors. The complainant had been regularly filing the company’s quarterly GST returns. However, due to financial difficulties, he could not file the GST return or pay the applicable tax for the April-June 2026 quarter.

Following this, the State Tax Department’s Ghatak-6 office allegedly froze the company’s bank account as well as the complainant’s savings bank account.

The complainant subsequently approached the State Tax office and met State Tax Inspector Mansuri, requesting that the bank account be unfrozen. According to the ACB, Mansuri allegedly discussed the matter with State Tax Officer Thakor and demanded ₹25,000 from the complainant to get the account unfrozen.

As the complainant did not want to pay the bribe, he approached the ACB. Based on his complaint, the ACB laid a trap at the Assistant State Tax Commissioner’s office at Lal Darwaza on August 14.

During the trap, both officials allegedly accepted ₹25,000 from the complainant. The ACB team caught the accused and recovered the entire bribe amount of ₹25,000.

The ACB said the two officials allegedly misused their positions as public servants to demand and accept the bribe and committed offences under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. DeshGujarat
