Subhash Bridge RTO Plans Second Driving Test Track to Ease Rising Wait Times

Ahmedabad: Around 80% of applicants are failing the new AI-based driving test, leading the Transport Department to plan longer testing hours and a second test track at Subhash Bridge RTO to reduce the growing backlog.
Applicants currently face a waiting period of 40-45 days at Subhash Bridge RTO, while the wait at Vastral RTO has stretched to nearly two months.
Subhash Bridge RTO officer B.R. Suryavanshi said a second test track has been proposed and is expected to be ready within four months of work commencing.
The AI-driven system conducts the entire test online with minimal scope for human intervention, detecting even minor errors and resulting in a significantly higher failure rate. Earlier, the RTO conducted 300-400 tests a day, with most applicants clearing them.
The department is also considering extending testing hours. At present, appointments are offered in two shifts between 8 am and 8 pm at Subhash Bridge RTO. Officials are considering starting tests as early as 6 am to give applicants more flexibility and help reduce the waiting period. DeshGujarat
