5,157 Litres of Spurious Ghee Seized in Surat; 987 Litres Seized in Deesa

Surat: The Food and Drug Regulatory Authority has stepped up action against food adulteration in Gujarat. During recent raids in Surat and Deesa in Banaskantha district, officials seized large quantities of suspected adulterated ghee and edible oils.

In Surat, the Food and Drug Regulatory Authority raided a factory operated by Keval Food Product at Hindwa Dream Industrial Estate in Stad Pardi, Kamrej taluka. Officials found that the unit was allegedly manufacturing and packing suspected adulterated ghee without a valid licence.

The authorities seized 5,157 litres of ghee, valued at around Rs 26.12 lakh, packed under the brand name Shri Anmol Ratan Cow Ghee. They also seized 1,485 kg of palm oil, valued at around Rs 3.63 lakh, and 285 kg of soybean oil from the premises. Samples of the seized products were collected for testing.

In a separate operation, the Palanpur Circle team conducted raids at various firms in Deesa. During the inspection, officials seized 987 litres of suspected adulterated ghee, with an estimated value of Rs 6.22 lakh.

Legal samples have been collected in all the cases under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and sent to laboratories for testing. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings.

Health Minister Praful Pansheriya said no person or business establishment found compromising citizens’ health through food adulteration would be spared. He also said the ongoing campaign against food adulteration would be intensified across the state in the coming days. DeshGujarat
