Sabarmati – Veraval Vande Bharat Express Begins Operations on New Route; Lathi Locals Seek Halt
August 17, 2026
Amreli: The Sabarmati-Veraval Vande Bharat Express began operations on its new route on Monday, with an official stoppage at Chital in Amreli district. While the new service was welcomed by Chital villagers, residents of nearby Lathi have demanded a halt in their city, which has not been included among the train’s stoppages.
The Vande Bharat Express was flagged off from Botad by Union Minister of State Nimuben Bambhaniya. The inauguration was attended by BJP leaders, railway officials and employees at Botad railway station.
The new route covers Sabarmati, Gandhigram, Dholka, Dhandhuka, Botad, Dhola, Dhasa, Chital, Junagadh and Veraval. Chital’s inclusion as a stoppage has been welcomed by local residents, who greeted the train on its arrival.
However, the absence of a halt at Lathi has triggered disappointment among residents and traders. Locals argue that Lathi is an important commercial and industrial centre and that a stoppage would benefit traders, industrialists, students and other passengers.
Residents have also urged local political leaders to make an effective representation before the Railway Ministry instead of limiting their response to welcoming the train as it passes through the area.
The issue has gained further attention after local BJP leaders discussed welcoming the Vande Bharat with flowers. Some residents said efforts should instead focus on securing a permanent stoppage for Lathi.
Local residents and traders are now demanding that the railway administration and the government consider their request for a halt at Lathi. DeshGujarat
