Bharuch: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat on Tuesday caught two officials, including a Class 1 officer of the Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) of Bharuch, while they allegedly accepted a bribe of Rs 40,000 for processing a new wholesale drug licence.

The accused have been identified as Prakashbhai Nanakram Posnani, 54, Assistant Commissioner (Class 1), Food and Drugs Department, Bharuch, and Surbhiben Desai, 29, Drug Inspector (Class 2) with the department.

According to the ACB, the complainant had applied for a new wholesale drug licence with the Food and Drugs Department in Bharuch. During the licence process, the accused allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000, saying that the amount had to be paid to the senior official for processing the licence.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the Narmada ACB Police Station. Based on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap at the Assistant Commissioner’s chamber of the Food and Drugs Department in Bharuch on August 18, 2026.

During the operation, the two accused allegedly accepted Rs 40,000 from the complainant. The ACB recovered the entire amount and detained the two officials for further legal action.
