Bhavnagar Spurious Liquor Tragedy: LCB Police Inspector Among Cops Suspended

Bhavnagar: The Gujarat Police has suspended the Bhavnagar District Local Crime Branch (LCB) Police Inspector and the Police Inspector of Vartej Police Station following the deaths of eight people in the suspected spurious liquor case in Bhavnagar district.

The action was taken after the State Police Chief ordered a detailed investigation into the incident and handed over the probe to the State Monitoring Cell (SMC).

According to Law and Order IGP Makarand Chauhan, eight people have died so far, while 31 others are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in Bhavnagar district. One of the patients is being treated at a private hospital in Surat.

The police have registered cases in connection with the incident at Bharatnagar and Vartej police stations and initiated an investigation. The process of seeking remand of the 13 accused arrested so far is underway.

As part of the action against alleged negligence, the State Police Chief has suspended the Bhavnagar District LCB Police Inspector and the Police Inspector of Vartej Police Station.

The Bhavnagar District Superintendent of Police has also suspended three D-Staff personnel of Vartej Police Station, the local beat jamadar and a woman jamadar of Nilambagh Police Station with immediate effect.

The State Monitoring Cell is conducting a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the alleged manufacture, supply and distribution of the spurious liquor. DeshGujarat
