Vadodara: Jambusar police have arrested one Faizal Majeed Diwan, a resident of Kia village in Karjan taluka, after the family of a 24-year-old Hindu female BHMS doctor alleged that she was allegedly abducted and a fake marriage certificate was later submitted to police.
The woman, who was working at a hospital in Gotri, went missing in May. Her family later learnt that she was allegedly staying with Faizal. A marriage certificate submitted to Jambusar police claimed that the two had entered into a court marriage.
However, the family had the document verified at Kuber Bhawan in Vadodara. The concerned office reportedly stated in writing on June 30 that no marriage between the two had been registered in its records up to June 16 and that the certificate had not been issued by the office.
Based on a complaint by the woman’s father, Jambusar police registered a case against Faizal and arrested him. Police are investigating the alleged forgery and the circumstances in which the woman left home.
According to the family, the woman called them on May 7 and said she had married Faizal and would not return home. She also reportedly said she had taken a six-tola gold necklace with her. The family later filed a missing-person complaint at Gotri police station on May 11.
The woman’s father has written to the Prime Minister seeking an SIT probe into the alleged fake marriage certificate and the circumstances surrounding his daughter’s disappearance. The family has alleged that the woman was manipulated and taken away under the guise of a relationship. Her mother has also appealed for her daughter to be brought back, alleging that she was “brainwashed” and referring to the incident as a case of “love jihad.”
Advocate Chetan Desai, representing the family, said several questions need to be investigated, including who prepared the alleged duplicate marriage certificate, who signed as witnesses and how the document was produced.
Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP)’s Vishnu Prajapati also demanded an SIT investigation into the matter. He said cases involving allegedly forged marriage certificates should be investigated thoroughly and called for scrutiny of certificates issued under the Special Marriage Act and other applicable provisions.
Police are now investigating whether the marriage certificate was forged, who prepared and submitted it, and the circumstances surrounding the woman’s departure with the accused. DeshGujarat
