Five booked for gang rape attempt on Vadodara Hindu woman at Mumbai hotel; 2 held

Vapi: A 20-year-old Hindu female from Vadodara has alleged that five men from Surat and Vadodara attempted to sexually assault her at a hotel in Mumbai after allegedly making her consume alcohol and drugs.

Police have arrested two of the five accused, Shafan Zafar Sheikh of Vadodara and Farid Wahid Kothiyawala of Surat. The other three accused, identified as Faizan, Wasim and Salman, are reportedly absconding.

The incident came to light after the female fell ill while returning from Mumbai and was taken to a hospital in Vapi. Hospital staff, who suspected that something was wrong, informed the police, following which the Dungra police began an investigation.

According to the preliminary information, the female had travelled to Mumbai with the accused and was allegedly called to a hotel where she was made to consume alcohol and drugs. She has alleged that the men then attempted to sexually assault her and also threatened her with serious consequences if she disclosed the incident.

The police have taken the two arrested accused into custody for questioning and are searching for the remaining three. The investigation is also looking into the circumstances in which the female was taken to Mumbai, what happened at the hotel and the events leading to her falling ill while returning to Gujarat.

The female is undergoing medical examination, and police said further action will be taken based on her statement, medical records and other evidence collected during the investigation. DeshGujarat
