Rs 18.5 Crore Land Deal Fraud: Ahmedabad Farmer Alleges Cheating, Death Threats
August 20, 2026
Ahmedabad: A Gota-based farmer has alleged that he was cheated of Rs 18.5 crore in a Rancharda land deal after seven people, including landowners and brokers, allegedly took payments but failed to complete the transaction. He also alleged that he was threatened with death when he demanded the documents or a refund.
According to a complaint filed by Ashok Vasani with Bodakdev police, he cultivates pomegranates in Kutch and is also involved in trading in Ahmedabad. In 2023, he approached brokers Girish Bharwad and Ashok Rabari while looking for land for business purposes.
A Rs 24-crore deal was finalised, and Vasani paid Rs 25 lakh as a token amount. The accused allegedly claimed that the non-agricultural conversion process was underway and later collected Rs 18.5 crore through cheques and cash.
Vasani alleged that after land prices increased, the accused delayed the paperwork. When he demanded completion of the deal or a refund, they allegedly refused and threatened to kill him during a meeting in Shilaj.
He further alleged that cheques issued for repayment bounced, while only Rs 5 lakh was eventually returned.
Bodakdev police have registered a case against the seven accused, including the brokers and landowners, and launched an investigation. DeshGujarat
