Ahmedabad: The CBI Court in the city today convicted and sentenced Jarnail B. Singh, then an Income Tax Officer (OSD) attached to the office of the Joint/Additional Commissioner of Income Tax (Audit), Pratyakshkar Bhavan, Ahmedabad, to three years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹20,000 in a bribery case.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered the case on February 22, 2013, following allegations that Singh had demanded an illegal gratification of ₹10,000 from the complainant for issuing a certificate under Sections 11 and 80G of the Income Tax Act to facilitate tax exemption for the Shrilekha Vividhlaxi Charitable Trust.
