Scattered Light Rain Likely in Gujarat Over the Week: IMD Forecast

Ahmedabad: Most parts of Gujarat are witnessing cloudy skies and sporadic light showers, with no major spell of heavy rain reported in the state. The weather pattern is likely to continue through the week, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting light to moderate rain and thundershowers at isolated places or a few places.

The IMD has not issued any major rainfall warning for Gujarat through August 29, indicating that widespread heavy rain is unlikely during the period. According to the forecast, rain is likely at isolated places or a few places across all districts of Gujarat over the coming days.

The weather conditions are influenced by a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal and north Odisha. The system is likely to move nearly northwestwards across north Odisha and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal during the next 24 hours.

The monsoon trough at mean sea level currently extends from Amritsar through Patiala, Bareilly, Varanasi, Daltonganj and Jamshedpur to the centre of the low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal, before extending southeastwards towards the east-central Bay of Bengal.

A western disturbance also persists, while southwesterly to westerly winds are prevailing at lower levels over the region.

Meanwhile, Ahmedabad recorded a maximum temperature of 33°C on August 23, while the minimum temperature on August 24 was 26.7°C. The maximum temperature was 0.4°C above normal, while the minimum was 1.6°C above normal.

Among other major cities, Vadodara recorded a maximum of 33.6°C, Bhavnagar 34.5°C, Rajkot 33.9°C, Gandhinagar 32.8°C and Surat 31.9°C on August 23.

The weather is expected to remain largely cloudy over Gujarat in the coming days, with light rain or thundershowers at isolated places or a few places rather than a widespread heavy rainfall spell. DeshGujarat
