Gujarat to Set Up Renewable Energy-Powered Green EV Charging Stations

Gandhinagar: Gujarat is set to launch a pilot network of 100% renewable energy-powered green EV charging stations, integrating hybrid renewable power generation with energy storage systems to reduce reliance on the conventional electricity grid and accelerate the state’s shift towards electric mobility.

The initiative is one of three pilot projects with a combined investment of around Rs 9.02 crore, to be implemented by the Gujarat Power Research and Development Cell (GPRD Cell) of GUVNL in collaboration with the Gujarat Energy Research and Management Institute (GERMI).

The green EV charging station project will integrate renewable hybrid power generation with energy storage technologies to ensure that the charging infrastructure operates entirely on renewable energy.

Under the second pilot, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) will be deployed at the distribution level to manage peak power demand and help prevent transformer overloading.

The third initiative will focus on smart hybrid inverters, with the pilot examining advanced capabilities such as Volt-VAR control and frequency support. These inverters can respond to changes in voltage and frequency, helping enhance grid stability and improve overall power quality. DeshGujarat
