Ahmedabad Man Swaps Boarding Pass at Delhi Airport to Fly to Toronto; Held with Fake Passport

Ahmedabad: A Ranip resident allegedly swapped his boarding pass with a Thane man at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport to change his destination from Nepal to Toronto, according to an FIR.

The incident took place in the early hours of August 16. As per the FIR, an airline staffer stopped a Canada-bound passenger over suspicion of a fake Canadian visa and passport. During questioning, officials found that he was actually an Ahmedabad resident who had been cleared to fly to Kathmandu and had used his voter ID for identification.

The Canadian visa belonged to the Thane resident, who had already completed immigration formalities for Toronto. According to the FIR, the two allegedly exchanged boarding passes after crossing security, allowing the Ahmedabad man to assume the Thane passenger’s identity.

Police also recovered a forged Indian passport bearing the genuine passenger’s details but a different photograph, along with a fake immigration stamp dated August 15.

Police suspect the swap was carried out at the alleged behest of a travel agent. Both men have been booked for cheating, personation, forgery, use of forged documents and criminal conspiracy, besides offences under the Passports Act.

Investigators have seized the passports, boarding passes, identity documents and CCTV footage and are probing the travel agent’s role. DeshGujarat
