VMC Destroys 288 Kg of Coloured Manchurian, Biryani; Jagdish Farsan Among Units Sealed

Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) destroyed 288 kg of Manchurian and biryani prepared using synthetic food colours during inspections carried out by its food safety teams, while several restaurants, bakeries and food outlets were shut for unhygienic conditions and other violations.

VMC food safety officers formed four teams and inspected restaurants, food and water shops, and food lorries across the city. During the drive, units including Swagat Sweet Corner, Amritsari Kulcha, Pratham Bakery and Shri Jagdish Farsan were closed for violations ranging from unhygienic conditions to the sale of misbranded food and operating without the required licence or registration.

At Swagat Sweet Corner restaurant on Vasna-Bhayali Road, officers found 8 kg of Manchurian prepared using synthetic food colour and a can of the colour. Both were destroyed, and the restaurant was closed due to unhygienic conditions.

At Amritsari Kulcha, 10 kg of suspected substandard cheese was found and destroyed. The restaurant was also shut due to unhygienic conditions.

During an inspection of a bakery manufacturing unit in the Alkapuri area, officers found unhygienic conditions. A notice was issued to the operator, and the bakery was closed.

In the Gotri area, Raghuvanshi Paan Parlour was found operating without a licence or registration. The operator was issued a notice, and the parlour was closed.

Food safety officials also inspected Hyderabadi Biryani in Fatehganj, where 40 kg of non-vegetarian food and chutney were destroyed. The restaurant was closed due to unhygienic conditions.

At A-One Bombay Biryani and New Bombay Rasoya, officers found 60 kg and 160 kg, respectively, of biryani prepared using synthetic food colour. The food was destroyed, and both units were closed due to unhygienic conditions.

Another 20 kg of synthetic-coloured biryani was found at Zamzam Caterers. It was destroyed, and the unit was closed.

In Manjalpur, 5 kg of paneer, boiled potatoes, pakodas and other food items were destroyed at Dawat restaurant, which was also closed for unhygienic conditions. Bansal Food was similarly shut over cleanliness issues.

The Shri Jagdish Farsan shop in the Jubilee Bagh area was closed over misbranded food items. Jay Bharat Farsan Mart was shut due to unhygienic conditions, while a unit operating under the name Jay Shraddha for the sale of Sewusal was closed after officials found that the operator did not have the required licence or registration.

VMC warns traders against reopening sealed units

The VMC has warned food business operators against reopening units sealed by the civic body without permission. Officials said some traders allegedly reopen their establishments without informing food safety authorities.

The civic body has warned that if a sealed unit is reopened without VMC permission, the operator’s FSSAI licence or registration will be suspended. DeshGujarat
