Camel Trapped on Railway Bridge, Rescued Using JCB in Porbandar; Train Traffic Affected

Porbandar: A major accident was averted early Thursday after a camel was trapped on the railway track on the Vansjaliya–Ranavav section in Porbandar. The incident disrupted rail traffic for several hours, with two trains cancelled and four delayed, affecting thousands of passengers.

The incident occurred around 4:45 am on August 27, when the loco pilot of Train No. 19015 Saurashtra Express (Dadar–Porbandar) noticed the camel on the track and immediately stopped the train. The prompt action helped avert a potential accident.

According to officials, the camel’s leg had become trapped beneath a railway bridge. Following the alert from the loco pilot, railway officials sought the assistance of the Porbandar Fire Brigade to rescue the animal and clear the track.

Porbandar Fire Officer Abhay Mehta said around 20 personnel were involved in the rescue operation. The team used ropes and straps to secure the camel and brought a JCB to the spot. The camel was then slowly lifted using the JCB, allowing its trapped leg to be freed.

The coordinated rescue operation took around four hours, after which the camel was safely removed from the track. Officials said the animal was not injured.

Rail traffic on the Vansjaliya–Ranavav section remained halted during the rescue operation. Services resumed after the track was cleared.
