Gujarat Govt Clears 600 Cusecs Water Release for 2 Districts Under SAUNI Yojana

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has approved the release of 600 cusecs of water from the Machhu-2 Reservoir through SAUNI Scheme Link-1 to meet water requirements in Devbhumi Dwarka and Jamnagar districts.

The decision was taken considering the water needs of residents and farmers in the two Saurashtra districts amid inadequate rainfall.

The region generally depends on local reservoirs for irrigation. However, with rainfall remaining below expectations, water availability in several reservoirs has come under pressure. The Narmada basin is also currently witnessing lower-than-normal storage, making water management particularly important.

According to the state Water Resources and Water Supply Department, 600 cusecs of water is being drawn through SAUNI Link-1 from the Machhu-2 Reservoir for supply to Devbhumi Dwarka and Jamnagar.

The government has directed that drinking water requirements will be given first priority. After meeting drinking water needs, the remaining water will be utilised for agriculture and irrigation purposes.

The move is expected to provide relief to people in the two districts by addressing drinking water requirements while also supporting farmers facing water shortages for irrigation. DeshGujarat
